Top 10 Favorite Items You Need in a Nursery

Overall, I try be pretty minimal when it comes to nursery decor and baby items. I remember being so overwhelmed when I was first planning our nursery and baby registry 5 years ago. There is so much to choose from out there! But when it comes down to it, there is not that much you actually need.

I put together my favorite nursery organizational and decor items that I use in our own home! I have each of these items in our nursery currently, but a majority of them are not necessarily nursery-specific – you could use them in many areas of your home!

Nursery Sources
  1. OrganiHaus Woven Storage Baskets – These are my favorite storage baskets! They come in a bunch of different colors and sizes for all kinds of uses. This 2 pack is perfect for toy storage. But I also love the larger sizes for storing blankets or as laundry baskets.
  2. 3 Pack Seagrass Wicker Baskets – These baskets have so many potential uses. I use the largest size on the dresser, beside the changing pad. It holds everything from diapers and wipes to lotions and finger nail clippers – a great catchall for all the baby things! During the newborn stage, I used the smaller baskets as nursing stations with burp cloths and snacks, and now I use them to store washcloths and toiletries in our bathrooms. So many uses!
  3. Little Blue Truck Book Series – We love to read and have a ton of books! I’ll probably do a round up of our favorite children’s books soon. But until then, this series has been a favorite from the beginning! Such a cute storyline in each and the different themes can be fun to give for different holidays (Christmas, Valentine’s, etc.). Both my boys love these!
  4. Humidifier – I refused to buy a humidifier for years because the last one I owned was impossible to clean. But I finally found one that is easy to clean (hallelujah!) and doesn’t break the bank. We own 3 of these now – 1 in each bedroom. It puts out a large amount of mist, has a large enough tank so it will run all night (longer than that really), but most importantly, it comes apart easily for cleaning.
  5. Drawer Organizing Bins – These are so nice for keeping baby onesies organized. When clothing is small, it can be hard to keep it neat and organized inside a large drawer. These bins are a nice quality at a great price. I needed 2 sets for the whole dresser.
  6. Hatch Rest+ – Y’all I cannot live without this thing. We originally bought it for the nursery when my first baby was born. I loved the white noise so much that I actually bought one for our own bedroom and now we own 3! I take one with us whenever we travel. The Rest+ is a little more expensive, but so worth it for the back up battery (especially when the power goes out at 3 in the morning).
  7. Lou Lou & Company Clothing – The knotted gowns and swaddle blankets are 2 of my favorite products from this company, but honestly you can’t go wrong because all of their products are beautifully made. The knotted gowns make those middle of the night diaper changes so much easier and the material is buttery soft. Lots of cute colors and prints to choose from. They are also my go-to gift for my friends who are expecting.
  8. Cuddle + Kind Dolls – These are SO cute for a newborn or toddler! They are soft, hand-made, and have a charitable cause behind each purchase. There are tons of different ones to choose from! Makes a great baby shower gift too.
  9. Grey Swivel Glider Chair and Ottoman – This was one of the first purchases I made for the nursery almost 5 years ago and it has held up great! It’s hard to find an affordable glider that also includes an ottoman. The fabric is microfiber which is easy to spot clean. We still use it daily – I’ve been very impressed with it!
  10. Grey Lidded Hamper – This is a great, sturdy hamper and fits well in a small space. This doubles as a side table in our nursery because I didn’t have space for an extra table by the glider. The top is sturdy and makes for a great extra space to sit things.

If you or someone you know is expecting, congratulations! I hope this information is helpful!
